The Dana-Thomas house

Frank Lloyd Wright, America’s legendary architect, was commissioned in 1902 to renovate and construct a show-piece house by the Thomas family. We had the chance to stop off there yesterday, in Springfield and I’m glad we did. The house itself has an almost Japanese aspect (as the guide said: although FLW insisted he was never influenced by anuone, he did spend a lot of time in the Japanese part of the World’s Fair in St Louis in 1904). It’s remarkably dark inside but the space itself is magnificent and it definitely feels contemporary rather than 100 years old.

The lady that lived in the house didn’t have a particularly lucky life, but let’s face it, she did live in one hell of a party house…
